A succesful exchange is built on trust that develops during your contact with your exchange partner. Put absolutely everything in writing and highlight areas of agreement.

Select the best exchange partner for you. It is unlikely that a couple with a small child and a dog would be a suitable exchange if you are a retired couple and have no pets. Don't make do. If you can't find the right exchange then wait a while and one will almost certainly turn up.
