What is No-Tow........  all about?

Probably the best way to explain how No-Tow.... works is to tell the actual story of a caravan exchange that took place in the Autumn of 2006 and became the catalyst for No-Tow.....

John and Shirley both in their late sixties live in a little village west of Chichester in West Sussex. They have been caravanning for nearly forty years and although they have never ventured across the Channel they have visited almost every corner of the UK. Shirley was born in West Hartlepool and they have visited many times to see family who still live there. Towing to Scotland with an overnight stop is something that John used to take in his stride and a tow of 300 miles in a day was not unusual  but all that has changed. With advancing years, much busier roads and lately health problems John has applied a voluntary limit of 100 miles towing a day. In July 2006 Shirley's Uncle Charles died and John and Shirley made the 7 hour car trip to Hartlepool to attend the funeral. John and Shirley stayed with Uncle, Les and his wife Jean. Les and Jean were also caravanners and the conversation inevitably turned to caravanning.

To cut a long story short John expressed a wish to visit Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales again but couldn't face the tow and Les said that he would like to visit the New Forest and like John could no longer face the 320 mile tow.

No-Tow.... was spawned. Les said that he would tow his caravan, a 2003 2 berth Bailey Ranger to Hawes and set it up for John and Shirley to use and in return John agreed to tow his caravan, a 1998 2 berth Avondale Mayfly to Brockenhurst in the New Forest and set it up for Les and  Jean to use. The detail of the exchange was  agreed by letter, telephone and e-mail. It was a resounding success and was followed by a further exchange in 2006 and two exchanges in 2007 with one planned so far in 2008.
